Written by Morgan Campbell

Recently, The Network M spotlighted YIP, The International Youth Initiative Program, a new social entrepreneur training in Järna, Sweden, for youth aged 18 to 25 who want to create a positive social change in the world.  The program is a unique and meaningful way to connect youth from all over the world who wish to engage in positive change and to share their own ideas and initiatives with like-minded individuals.

In an effort to continually connect socially and spiritually striving individuals, The Network M presents you with a letter of intent. Below you will find one such striving youth who wants nothing more than to be a part of YIP, but does not have the financial means to attend.  If you are able to contribute to her cause (even the smallest donation will help) please do so.  Or if you know of someone who is interested in helping this one individual in her goal to develop as a person of positive change in the world, please forward this article to them.

Dear Network M,

I have chosen to contact you due to your affiliation with the anthroposophical society.

For years now I have been eager to make change and wondering where the appropriate place to begin may be. I was privileged and honored to attend a school where they really encouraged contribution and global awareness. At this point I have a wealth of knowledge, and the instinct to apply it, but have yet to figure out where. I have many ideas (I am not sitting on the sidelines) but I look at a University as a place to go after some further investigation. I know so many people who have gone straight into college after high school and into a degree without much thought and regretted it. I am not sure what is next, I am eager for more exploration.

I see YIP is an opportunity to explore some of the artistic fields that I feel are integral to my being, while also making a contribution to the community. This program will also be an opportunity to explore education in a non-standard form. I have always wanted to work overseas, learn more about the anthroposophical approach to life, and work with other young people with aspiring goals and dreams that I may share. I sense that YIP will broaden my knowledge and inspire me to explore ways to speak to the larger cause of change in the world, and nurture my awareness to what is inherently important to our survival on this planet. I can say from experience that just being in the presence of youth from other countries teaches so much in itself. I would love the opportunity to bring my gifts to the table and to experience the community that is being offered through YIP.

I absolutely love the design of the schedule, how there is a practical portion and a more hands on, artistic approach. Art and music are extremely important aspects of my life and I will never live without them. The opportunity to further incorporate the arts into my career, life and contribution in the world is what I have been searching for. In many colleges it seems there is an all or nothing approach to the arts or business world, as if you have to choose one or the other. I am interested in having those areas more integrated.

Another area that truly inspired me to apply is the opportunity to participate in internships. Internships are crucial and influential in the real-life application of the knowledge gained in any program. They also provide a doorway into the world beyond the program or school. I think the most powerful aspect that attracts me to this initiative is the community involvement. As long as I can remember, community has been what I live for. I have spent my entire life honoring community and collaboration and yearning to provide that out in the world on a larger scale. The idea of living with others in a communal environment and everyone contributing and doing their part is something that I find very intriguing. It also is something that would be invaluable in a world centered on individualism (that does not seem to be paying off). I am jumping at the opportunity to be in a community of youths and learn more about teamwork, partnership and what it takes to sustain and care for community and evolutionary change.

You have inspired me to follow my passion. I am writing to see if you might consider investing in my future development. To attend the YIP program I will need to earn or raise $20,000. I am almost 40% of the way there. Your (tax deductible) contribution would be a big help. Please contact me to answer any additional questions you might have.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
