OCTOBER

An Evening Seminar at Alcatraz/Angel Islands with Ana Pogacnik
San Francisco, CA, USA:  October 9 - 11, 2009
Alcatraz and Angel islands are infamous, both in their significance for local Native Americans and as places where prisoners and immigrants were interned by the U.S. government in the last two centuries.
In this weekend seminar we will visit these islands, and perhaps other locations in the San Francisco bay area, and on this journey will be led to truly ‘see’ these places in a new way. Through individual and group exercises and practices, movement, singing, toning, art and guided meditation, we will look fearlessly into the mirror that the landscape is offering us, and through which we can recognise, understand and heal many unsolved questions about ourselves and our lives.
Cost for the seminar will be $275, which includes ferry and park fees but not accommodations and meals.

JANUARY

YWMS Conference and Youth Festival
Kolkata, India:  January 23 - 27, 2010
The Youth Festival themed on the idea of ‘Where the Nation Becomes a Single Nest’ is a novel initiative being undertaken by us for the first time. Teenagers and young adults are being invited to participate in what is going to be a very unique opportunity for them to step out of their mundane lives and relish the unimaginable and exhilarating joy of coming together for a fun fiesta. The Youth Festival would serve as the platform for bringing these young adults coming from remote parts of India together and engaging them in activities related to skits, dancing, music and sports. Can there be a better platform than this to establish and discover the joys of mutual camaraderie and bonhomie?

JUNE 2010

US Social Forum II
Detroit, Michigan, USA: June 22 - 26, 2010
The US Social Forum is a movement building process. It is not a conference but it is a space to come up with the peoples’ solutions to the economic and ecological crisis. The USSF is the next most important step in our struggle to build a powerful multi-racial, multi-sectoral, inter-generational, diverse, inclusive, internationalist movement that transforms this country, and changes history. We must declare what we want our world to look like and we must start planning the path to get there. The USSF provides spaces to learn from each other’s experiences and struggles, share our analysis of the problems our communities face, build relationships, and align with our international brothers and sisters to strategize how to reclaim our world.
